A Guide to Communicate with Ghosts and Spirits on the Other Side
Years before I became a practicing Psychic Medium and Energy Healer, my first foray into the Spirit World was through my deep fascination with ghosts.
Ever since I can remember, I?ve been enchanted by the spirit world: I read every collection of scary stories I could get my hands on and loved watching documentaries on all things occult and not-of-this-world. Simply put, the strange and paranormal was my thing.
Intuitive people like myself are amused by all that is macabre, but contacting spirits isn’t a parlor trick. In fact, communicating with the departed is serious business and requires advanced expertise.
Mediums are professional connectors who facilitate dialogue between the living and the dead. Being a Medium means that I can hear, see, know, and feel those who are no longer in their physical earthly bodies.
Ghosts versus Spirits
Many Spirits can only be heard and seen by experts, which is why Mediums help deliver their messages. Ghosts, however, are a bit different. Ghosts will often use any conduit available to make contact.
Ghosts are Spirits that have not yet had closure with leaving. This process can take a long time and is often linked to location, which explains why some places ? like a dimly lit hospital ward or a vacated prison ? can remain haunted for centuries.
A Quick Guide to Communicate with Ghosts
For those seeking self-guided experiences, follow the tips and tricks outlined below. All divination practices require study, practice, and patience, but when dealing with the departed, you want to be especially careful with your approach. After all, Ghosts are people too.
Sage it for Later
Sage is an ancient herb used for cleansing and purification rituals. Smudging is traditionally a ceremony for purifying or cleansing the soul of negative thoughts of a person or place. Smudging is the first step to many rituals and ceremonies? but not when it comes to contacting ghosts.
Since sage is used for clearing, ghosts interpret sage as a request to leave a space. If you sage and then try to communicate, the ghosts will likely get annoyed by your mixed messages and, if it does show up, either be cranky or despondent.
Set up Different Conductors
Even the most industrious ghosts rely on conduits to deliver messages. As you’re preparing to make contact with the dead, set up several different conductors within the space.
Historically, ghosts have been known to communicate through candle flames, liquid (water in a glass may ripple when a spirit is present), through light bulbs, radios, cellphone microphones, and scent.
Audio and video recording devices are also effective conductors and can be used in real-time to aid transmission. Just as the living have preferences, the departed may prefer some devices over others, so make sure to have several options available.
Be Direct and Respectful
It’s important to be respectful, so use thoughtful words (don’t make any demands) and a calm tone throughout the dialogue.
Be direct, and communicate exactly what you would like to say and what you’re experiencing. Most ghosts don’t want to scare you (and the ones that use fear tactics are often just being mischievous), so if something makes you nervous, let them know (in a strong, yet peaceful intonation) that you’re afraid.
Pendulum Boards Really Work
Pendulum boards are complete with letters and numbers, so it’s easy for ghosts to, quite literally, spell out their messages. It’s a great way to communicate with Ghosts.
Celebrate Life by Embracing the Season of Death
Our seasons follow a cycle. Right now, we?re in the season of death. The days are shorter, the air crisper, the leaves changing. In spring, food is planted, and animals are born; in summer they grow, in fall comes the harvest, and in winter things are dead.
It?s not a coincidence that many cultures around the world have celebrations and ceremonies relating to death at this time of year. The dominant one in America is Halloween. But for many Mexicans, it?s the season of Día de Muertos.
The holiday originated in Aztec culture before Spanish colonizers and the Roman Catholic Church arrived.
Today, Día de Muertos is celebrated by Mexican Catholics and many others in Mexico and the United States.
The holiday comes from a cultural point of view that sees death not as a finality but as moving on to the next stage. Death doesn?t have too necessarily be sad or scary. Our lives have seasons and cycles, like everything else.
On Día de Muertos, souls that have moved on to their next season have a chance to cross back and be with the people who loved them. This is a perfect time to communicate with Ghosts as the veil is thin making communication easier.
Final Thoughts
Speaking to the departed might not come naturally to everyone who gives it a try, but that shouldn’t discourage you.
The first sign that you may have an innate ability to interact with Spirits is, simply, if you can see them from time to time.
It may be easier to contact a deceased loved one, since you know them better and have a clearer image of them. But you can also interact with the Spirit Shadows you are seeing per your question.
You can focus on a specific question you’d like to ask them about the afterlife or you can simply send them a message of greeting and comfort.
Keep an eye out for indications they’ve heard you, keeping in mind that these will be very subtle at first. You may hear a faint noise or the temperature of the room may change.
I often get goosebumps or ringing in my ear(s) when a Spirit is near. It?s my body?s way of signaling a presence is near. Everyone is different, so notice how your body signals you.
For the record, you might have a one-sided conversation the first few time you try communicating with the spirit world. We can talk to them. Whether we hear back is another story. It takes training.
With Love and Light,
Claudia
